GALA '08 to Support the Arts at FUHS

I am a parent volunteer at FUHS and have 3 FUHS student! Our eldest just graduated in '08 and is studying music at the university level. Our second child graduates this year and made her university decision based on the availability of some form of performance Jazz group at that school (even though she is not a music major). And our youngest student has also found a heart for instrumental music and loves the JAZZ at FUHS ; she'll enter FUHS in the fall.

Our family has participated in both the choral arts and the instrumental arts at FUHS. We have been impressed with the calibre of work in the photographic arts as well as drawing and painting. My husband was one of the founding members of the Fullerton Academy of the Arts Foundation (FAAF) and eight years later, I find myself as a member at large on their Board.

This coming year promises to be a very challenging year for any subject in the high school setting which is not a core class. The educational system is being threatened with drastic cuts in state support and decisions must be made to accommodate increasingly limited funding. The Fullerton Joint Union High School District will be bridging this gap by accessing some of our reserves for the coming year.

Another real plus for FUHS arts is the Fullerton Academy of the Arts Foundation (FAAF). You can find out more about its history and activity on our website (which is currently in transition, but still has a lot of good info on it!) at FullertonArts.com. I am writing this blog to let you know that there is an important fundraiser coming up this month for the benefit of the Academy of the Arts: it's called Gala '08. It will be taking place at the Villa del Sol April 26th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. We'll have a silent auction, entertainment from FUHS students and some great food! We'll also be honoring Gail Cochran and Terence Love for their vision and continuing support of the arts in our community and at FUHS.

Just wanted to invite any of you FUHS alumni who participated in the arts at FUHS! This is a great way to ensure the arts continue at your alma mater. Please e-mail if you want more information. gafranklin@earthlink.net
